    Unique benefits

Discover the benefits of Locsense Artemis impedance spectroscopy measurements

    • Automated TEER / impedance spectroscopy measurements

Monitor the barrier function while cells are situated inside the incubator or on the laboratory bench

    • User-friendly and workflow compatible

The software is plug and play and the system is easy to operate for first time users

    • Time-saving

Save time by automating TEER / impedance spectroscopy measurements for several hours or days at the desired time intervals

    • Non-destructive, semi-continuous

The Artemis operates while cells are located inside the incubator, hood or on the desktop. Measurements are non-destructive and can be performed for days in a row and intervals of your choice.

    • Compatible with conventional transwell plates

Smart-lids are available for 12 and 24 wells transwell plates, including Nunc, Corning, VWR, Greiner.

    • Reduced risk of cross contamination

Each well is equipped with a set of electrodes, thereby reducing the risk of cross contamination. All parts in contact with cells are autoclavable

    Quantifying skin barrier properties

The skin is important for keeping our bodies hydrated, guarding us from harmful substances and UV radiation, and protecting us from infectious agents. Tissue cultures can closely mimic the morphology of healthy human skin, but quantifying the skin’s barrier has ever been a difficult and work-intensive procedure.

We acquired the Artemis some years ago and this enabled us to measure the electrical impedance through our skin equivalent tissue cultures. We found that we’re not just measuring tissue volume or thickness, but were able correlate barrier protein expression levels to impedance values – truly quantifying the barrier properties of our cell cultures. In addition, using the Artemis over the course of the cell culture can help us monitoring the development of the tissue cultures. Furthermore, using the Artemis we are able to decide on the ideal experimental set-up during the culture, instead of knowing in hind-sight whether our experimental approach was right.

The Artemis is easy to set up and can measure the impedance of a full 24-well plate within minutes. With cell culture plastics sometimes scarce, it is reassuring that the Artemis can measure impedance in different brands of cell culture plastics, not limiting us to specific cell culture plastics. We enjoy working together with Locsense as they are very open to user feedback and willing to amend the Artemis and working to develop software packages that help the end user even further.

    Boosting Barrier Integrity Research

“We have been working with the Artemis ST in combination with 24 wells plates during a rental period and were impressed by its performance.

Recently, we purchases  one, allowing us to continue utilizing it in our experiments. The Artemis has been instrumental in generating reliable data on barrier integrity across various in vitro models, significantly enhancing the robustness of our experimental setups.

Moreover, the Artemis has enabled us to investigate time-dependent barrier effects, which we were previously unable to study in-depth. Its user-friendly interface and space-efficient design make it an excellent addition to our laboratory.

The Locsense team has consistently demonstrated professionalism and dedication, always putting in effort to meet our needs. Their support in experimental setup and data analysis has been very valuable. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Locsense and incorporating the Artemis further in our research.”

    Revolutionizing Laboratory Workflows

“The Artemis has become an essential piece of technology in a majority of the experimental and quality control workflows in our laboratory.

This system has enabled us to establish reliable, rapid and cost-effective methodologies to assess bioelectrical parameters of cells and tissues. This advancement has sped up our development of sophisticated human-like organ and tissue models. The Artemis is now a key tool for testing the quality of these models and assessing the safety of nanoparticles (such as air pollutants), as well as the safety and efficacy of new therapeutics (like extracellular vesicles) for repairing various organs.

Additionally, using the Artemis has significantly reduced the number of tests needed to evaluate the models and decreased the use of plasticware in the lab, contributing to the sustainability of our research. Lastly, the Locsense team has provided exceptional support with experimental setup and data analysis.”
